I woke up one day and nothing came to me. I couldn’t think of anything to write, anything to sing, anything to think. I didn’t want to do anything and the longer time passed by without doing anything, the worse it got.
I went to work, to university; I sat there looking into the distance, thinking that this is not my life, I don’t recognise this. I lived through the motion and I watched waves of people pass me by.
And one day, I woke up, and I wanted to write; so I wrote this. As Regina said, some days aren’t yours at all. I guess those were not my days then, but today sure feels like it belongs to me.
Here is Regina Spektor’s Somedays. It was on her 2006 album Begin To Hope; if you’re listening to this one, you’ll want to go for the extended version, the bonus tracks at the end are just as stunning as the non-bonus tracks, I mean aren’t Uh-Merica and Baobabs some of Regina’s best work?
