I’m alone tonight. The boy I usually socialise with on weekends decided to go socialise elsewhere – I’m trying not to be annoyed, but it’s kind of hard. The few friends I have handy don’t seem to be free. I have no one to play with.
So I was sitting here alone, minding my own business, doing what I do when I’m alone – you know I catch up on my crying, contemplate wether or not to get rid of my moustache, pretend to tidy, send passive-agressive messages to housemates and cry some more – when I started thinking about a friend I lost recently.
Don’t get sad and all, she’s not dead – well, she might be, I don’t get to have updates on that anymore. One day, she just decided she didn’t like me anymore and stopped talking to me. I don’t understand why anyone would feel compelled to do such a thing – what I’m saying here is I’m awesome and such fun to be around -, but she did it. How fucking dare she?
And tonight, when the friends who still like me can’t be here and I’m bored and caught up on all the crying, I wish she hadn’t dumped me and would still love me. So to make me forget about what once was, I picked a few songs about friends and when they’re not there.
Leyla McCalla – Lonely House (2013)
It’s a beautiful and playful sounding song about being alone at home. The album on which you can find this song is Vari-Colored Songs; it is a tribute to African-American poet and writer Langston Hugues. It’s a great album, go check it out.
The Doors – When The Music’s Over (1967)
Music is a great way to feel less lonely sometimes – as trusty as a good old teddy bear. An oldie but a goodie, this song.

I think people are too afraid of DIY music. They shouldn’t, Daniel Johnston’s songs are beautiful in a naive and relatable way. I’m always up for some Daniel Johnston. If you’re into it, you can buy some pretty expensive drawings from him – cheapest I found was $115.
