I’m having trouble going to bed lately. You know sometimes you’ve got those phases when you’re tired but for some reason, you just can’t go to bed – it’s not just me, right?
This phase is coming at an inconvenient time. You see, I just finished watching Friends – I know, I have too much time now that I am not going to uni – and so I have nothing to watch when I’m not ready for sleep yet.
So I have turned to my old summer friend: YouTube. So there I am, 2am, I’ve been awake since about 6.45, and YouTube starts being a real mate and recommends Bright Eyes First Day of My Life (2005).
This is nothing new and I have heard it so many times before – I’m really quite keen on their 2005 album I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning and really most other Bright Eyes offerings, I mean if it’s good enough for Seth Cohen, it’s good enough for me – but at that time it just seemed like even more beautiful than I ever noticed it was.
Conor Oberst vocals are so soothing and lovely – and particularly suit the late hours in my opinion – and there are so many great lines – like this one “I’d rather be working for a paycheck than waiting to win the lottery” or the title above – that feel even more relatable when you’re dead tired at 2am!
So inspired by this beautiful love song that I now love more than ever, I think this Sunday, I’ll be revisiting some of my favourite love songs and I think you should too. It’s perfect for the cosy lazy Sunday morning vibe.
