So here I am. I handed in all my assignments. That’s it. I’m basically done with my bachelor. This has happened before you know. A few years ago, summer 2015, I got there, I finished my first bachelor. And what did I do? I panicked so I applied for another one to have another go and three more years as an undergraduate students.
But this time, I’m not panicking. I’m just feeling useless, purposeless and lonely – not that much of a departure from the usual state, but now I’ve got all the time in the world to think about it.
So in this murky days, a trusty and faithful companion of mine has been Elliott Smith. Can you think of a better soundtrack for this sad desperation? So here you have it, my 5 favourite Elliott Smith songs.
The Biggest Lie – Elliott Smith (1995)
I love this song and so should you. Why you ask? Well, those lyrics are just so beautiful. And with Elliott’s vocals: perfect soundtrack for these hard times!
Waltz #2 (XO) – XO (1998)
Who doesn’t like a good waltz? And you know, the round never-ending feeling they have, it’s not just good for dancing, it’s also great for thinking about our not never-ending lives.
Everything Means Nothing To Me – Figure 8 (2000)
Elliott was right, when you think about it, everything means nothing. And this is a perfect time to add that to the list of things to think about.
A Fond Farewell – From A Basement On The Hill (2004)
In 2003, Elliott Smith passed away. This album was released posthumously with the material he was working on when he died.
2:45 AM – Either/Or (1997)
That’s the time around which the freaking out about the future gets too hard so I start listening to Elliott Smith.
