“Are you gonna liberate us girls from male white corporate oppression?”

For those of you living under a rock, Thursday – the 8th of March – was what they – nobody know who they are, but they’re here – have decided to call International Women’s Day.

So, as I was sitting at my desk getting bored at work, staring at my colleagues and later “socialising” with a young man and listening to Sonic Youth’s Kool Thing – I probably listen to that song a bit too often – I had the words Kim sings in my head: “Are you gonna liberate us girls from male white corporate oppression?”.

I’m not an idiot – I think – so I know the answer to that question from most of those men is something around no. And I don’t care, because, as they – here they are again – said, women need men like a fish needs a bicycle. I mean it’s always nice to have a pretty bike lying around, but very far from essential.
